Oh, Mark’s, in our opinion the gold standard for donuts in Central Arkansas.  This shop opens at 5:30 AM, and many days there is a line of cars stretching in the street waiting to order.  Be there well before closing time of 11 AM if you want to have any selection other than the last few remaining glazed.  Everything here is fried to absolute perfection, plus the fillings and toppings are always fresh.  The yeast donuts are heavy, fluffy, and so delicious.  Also, to the joy of many, Mark’s finally started accepting credit card payments in 2024.

While already known around town as one of the best bakeries, the doughnuts from Cinnamon Crème are wonderful.  Only simple options like glazed, maple, chocolate, or the fantastic salted caramel are here.  These yeast doughnuts are massive, with one being enough to qualify as a dinner meal.  Call ahead or get there early to make sure you get a hold of these, as they tend to sell out.

The in-house pastry chef Paige Russell-Burt creates one of the area’s finest pastry cases, and the doughnuts here are sneaky great.  These are big fluffy yeast doughnuts with some house-made glazes and flavors that you won’t find elsewhere.  When in season, the strawberry glazed doughnut made with locally grown strawberries is a must-order.  There are rotating specialty flavors all year round, but the real treat is the doughnut hole is fried and perched back on top of the doughnut, just like nature intended.

Doughboy Donuts

2900 S. University Avenue
Little Rock, AR 72204

This former Shipley’s location is still run by the same family, with mostly a similar menu.  This shop is picked for its great location in South Little Rock, perfect for students and visitors around the UALR campus.  They have a nice selection of breakfast sandwiches and a convenient drive thru as well.  It is also open at 4 AM if you need an early pick me up or want to finish out the night of studying or partying in style.

Speaking of Shipley’s, it is likely one of the more well-known chain doughnut providers.  With multiple locations around the metro area, this chain is everything you want in a small doughnut shop.  The name of the game here is consistency and value.   You will have everyone’s favorite shape, filling, or topping, and they are always satisfying.  The prices are great, making grabbing a dozen (or two) for the office extremely easy.  If you aren’t craving just doughnuts, then grab a kolache and eat it on the way to drop off the office dozen, we won’t judge.

Yes, this is not a local donut shop, but a popular chain nonetheless.  The ultimate factor here is that the shop is open literally 24 hours a day, nearly every day of the year.  It’s also one of the only dedicated Little Rock donut shops downtown, making it a convenient stop at any hour.  There is a huge variety of cake donuts and yeast donuts, along with massive fritters.  With flavors like smores that comes with its own marshmallow or a maple bacon long john, these large donuts are sure to make a great impression at any gathering!
